| Description: |
The Limestone School of Community Education Landscape Improvements project focuses on transforming the school grounds into a multifunctional outdoor learning, play, and community-focused environment. The work emphasizes ecological stewardship, Indigenous-informed spaces, and durable site infrastructure that supports year-round use. The scope includes site preparation, grading, soil management, drainage enhancements, and installation of new pathways and surface treatments. Stone dust walkways, engineered wood fibre (EWF) safety surfacing, limestone screenings, mulch areas, and lawn reinstatement via hydroseeding and sod are provided to improve accessibility, safety, and site functionality. Grading and drainage improvements incorporate swales, berms, and play mounds to ensure positive drainage and long-term performance. Landscape development is a major component, featuring extensive planting of native and climate-appropriate trees, shrubs, grasses, and perennials. Key planting areas include a food forest, yard access zones, and screening along parking and service areas. Plant selections support biodiversity, outdoor education, and seasonal interest while complying with Canadian Landscape and Nursery Stock standards. New site amenities and structures include raised wooden planters, compost units, balance logs and stepping stumps, armour stone seating, an active play structure, storage sheds, and a covered outdoor shelter. Custom elements such as chalkboard panels and teaching spaces reinforce the site’s role as an outdoor classroom. Overall, the project delivers a thoughtfully designed landscape that integrates play, learning, cultural expression, and ecological resilience, creating a safe, engaging, and sustainable schoolyard for students and the wider community. |
